Window Sweeps

Window sweeps run horizontally across the upper inner edge of the door panel or door cap window molding. They are called by many different names: door felts, fuzzies, cat whiskers, and those door window things.

Whatever you decide to call them, they serve a very useful function. Window sweeps are designed to prevent damage to the glass as it is raised or lowered. Some sweeps are made of felt, rubber, cloth, or a combination of the aforementioned materials.

Industrial staples are the most common type of fastener used to attach the window sweep to the door panel. Small screws are also used to hold the sweep in place. A small screwdriver, die grinder, or diagonal cutter can be used to detach the fastener and free the old sweep from the panel. New sweep sets are available for most cars along with bulk lengths of sweep material for models that are not available as a prefabbed kit.
